Weekly Results 6th August - 12th AugustFaughan Valley had a full card of competitions over Saturday and Sunday passed with a 2 man scramble on Saturday which was quite popular with the members, and on Sunday we held a charity open for age concern, as well as our irons final.
The winners of the two man scramble was the pairing of Brian Gallagher and Barney O'connor who came in with a nett 60 playing off a handicap of 7. In second spot on a BOT was the pairing of John Millar and Roy Cooke with a nett score of 62 playing off a handicap of 8, and in third spot was Gary McIlroy and Hugh Doherty from Foyle with a nett score of 62 playing off 5.
On Sunday Faughan Valley hosted a charity open with visiting golfers from the area helping to make it a successful day for age concern. The winner on the day was 5 handicapper Paul Duffy with a score of 41, second spot was decided on a BOT between 16 handicapper Scott Somers and 26 handicapper Stephen Lunn both carding 39 points with Scott taking second spot. The Gross went to Trevor Peace with 84, the winner of the front nine was Geoff Bratton with 21 points playing off 16, and 25 handicapper took the back nine with 20points.
In the ladies competition the winner was 28 handicapper Jackie McNulty with 38 points, and second was Ann McGoldrick with 34 points playing off a handicap of 28. A great thanks to Don O'Doherty for his effortless work to make the day a Success and to his wife Gurty who made sure all was fed and watered MANY THANKS.
The final of the clubs popular Irons competition was run on Sunday afternoon with the nine finalists fighting it out for a set of Cleveland CG16 irons. It was a tight match between three of the finalists going through ten with James Lindsay 2 under par for the front nine and Paul Duffy hot on his heels at one over on the turn. Geoff Bratton was also in the hunt after nine holes. It was a different story after the turn with young James scratching two holes to let Paul in with 1 under for the back, finishing on level par with 41 points playing off a handicap of 5, well done Paul.
In the mid-week competition the winner was Ian Dunn with a score of 33 points playing off 23, with 24 handicapper Patrick McGlinchey taking second spot with 31 points, and William O'brien in third spot with 30 point.
