Captains Day Report 2014On Saturday 23rd August, Mr Robert Curry hosted his very successful and popular Captain’s Day competition at Faughan Valley Golf Club followed by the presentation of prizes and dinner dance at the White Horse Hotel. The event was very well attended by over 120 members and was also well supported by guest representatives from all of the local golf clubs. Our Vice Captain Frank McClintock proved a very popular winner.
Full Results: Captain’s Prize – Frank McClintock(12) 44 points. In second place was Victor Brolly (16) with 39 points. Third prize went to Paul Duffy (5) on a Break-of-Tie with Kevin Payne (11) both carding 38 points. The gross prize went to +1 handicapper James Lindsay with 70 gross. The Front Nine was won by Peter McGarrigle with 20 points and the Back Nine was won by Bosco Farren with 22 points. The winner of the Longest Drive went to John T Lewers and Nearest to the Pin went to Richard Jack from Newtownstewart GC. The Captain’s Guest Prize went to Joe Lynch (12) from Foyle GC with 36 points. The past Captains’ prize went to Cecil King (12) with 31 points. In the Ladies category which was played over 12 holes, the first prize went to Loren Smallwoods (14)with 25 points. One point behind with 24 points, was Celine McIvor (35). The Longest Drive went to Nadine Lynch while Loren Smallwoods enjoyed further success by winning the Nearest to the Pin competition.
On a separate note, all members were asked to vote on the day for the “Club man of the Year” and Mr John Huw Cleghorn was the well-deserved winner of this prestigious Trophy.
Our Captain, Mr Robert Curry would like to pay special tribute to his family and friends who supported him by providing refreshments throughout the whole day from dawn until nearly dusk. Their excellent food and words of encouragement were a welcome relief to the weary golfers as they passed the 12th hole! He would also like to acknowledge the superb efforts of the green-keeping staff who worked tirelessly during the month to ensure that the course was in such pristine condition.
